How NOT to make a laptop
Dec 8th, 2025 - scudoI have an old HP laptop I used to use a few years back, a ProBook 4520s; since I have nothing to do at all (lol no) I wanted to open it up so I could take pictures of the insides for documentation. What I found is a prime example of asshole hardware design and cutting costs where you don't need to.
This is how it looks like inside:
As you can see, the metal and the plastics are riveted together like it's an EeePC and not a midrange business laptop. No. I disagree with this so much. Just look at how they riveted the DVD drive block.
Thanks, HP. What if the CPU fan fails? Or the DVD drive? Or the network card? Not their problem, I guess.
