This is my PS2 motherboard; an SCPH-50004 console, with board revision GH-023 1-688-757-31.

This is the board, as seen from the top.

The top of the board
A picture of an emerald-looking PCB. Besides some capacitors and other components, there are two big black BGA chips and one really big silver BGA chip on the left side of the board.

This is the Emotion Engine, the PS2's custom CPU. I have a CXD9708GB, as you can see, manufactured in early July 2003.

This is the Graphics Synthesizer, the PS2's GPU. I have a CXD2949BGB (I think that's what it says? It's really hard to read).

This is the MechaCon, the PS2's optical drive controller and security coprocessor. I have a CXR706080 - a later ARM-based variant.

This is the SPU2, the PS2's sound processor (I have a CXD2947R) and a Macronix mask ROM.

This is the DEV9C, and it controls the bus for the expansion bay in phat PS2s. It's also known as "SSBUS controller" or "HDD controller", because it handles the HDD in the expansion bay. Some older revisions also supported PCMCIA.

This Texas Instruments SP3727D is the RF-Amp. I'm not sure what it does, as it's very poorly documented. My guess is that it helps the DVD drive laser in some way.

This is the Sanyo LB11971, the spindle motor driver for the DVD drive.
